From July 27 to 31, seven suppliers to the furniture industry are taking part in a trade mission in Chile. The initiative is being organized by Orchestra Brasil, a sector-based project to internationalize manufacturers of supplies, accessories, raw materials and technologies for the furniture industry, managed by Sindmóveis Bento Gonçalves in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).

The delegation's program includes the presentation of specific market studies on Chile, in addition to technical meetings with Chilean furniture manufacturers, retailers, distributors and importers. Based on this mission, the project aims to strengthen the relationship between Brazilian suppliers and the Chilean growing furniture market.

According to the president of Sindmóveis Henrique Tecchio, this is a key initiative in one of the main markets for the member companies of the Orchestra Brasil Project. "The aim of the visits, meetings and interviews is to learn more about the sector, to get information on the Chilean furniture industry and the distribution market of supplies and raw materials, in order to identify business opportunities and key players in the market," he says.

Chile has the highest per capita income in South America and a major economic growth in recent years. Moreover, it is one of the best business environments in Latin America, ranking 41 in the world. The production of Chilean furniture grew by 12.3% in 2014. Companies taking part in the trade mission include Base, Crippa, Jimo, Metalsinos, Promob, Tecbril and Tramontina.

Project results

In a scenario with sharp fall in exports of the Brazilian industry in the first half of 2015, the amount in dollars of products exported by the member companies fell by 4.1%, while non-member companies had a drop of 33.2%.

Moreover, between 2010 and 2014 the project increased from 40 to 76 destinations. The Orchestra Brasil Project has been carried out since 2006 promoting the competitive inclusion of suppliers to the woodworking sector in the international market. To achieve this goal it promotes market research, missions to prospect markets, individual actions, Buyer’s Projects, Seller’s Projects and Image projects, in addition to taking part in major world trade fairs. Currently, Orchestra Brasil comprises 74 manufacturers of supplies, accessories, raw materials, components and technologies for the furniture industry.
