Since the end of last Movelsul, Sindmóveis has been working on the fourth edition of Casa Brasil, which will be held from August 13-16, 2013. The work has gained momentum with the development of special projects and the entries for Salão Design Casa Brasil. The award, given by Sindmóveis for 25 years, integrates creativity and technological innovation with furniture and accessories through design. The deadline for entries is about a month away, and so far the number of registered projects already exceeds that of the last edition for the period. The assessment of the entries competing in the student, professional and industry categories will start in March.

At the same time, the staff of Casa Brasil is developing a project to revive and enhance the local handicrafts that will result in a line of kitchen products, including tableware and matching items, to be launched during the fair. The first workshops with local artisans were held throughout last year. In March, the action will be restarted with the definition of the items that will make up the collection. Coordinated by  architects Tina Moura and Lui Lo Pumo (LT Arquitetura e Design), members of Casa Brasil curatorship, and designer Renato Imbroisi from Rio de Janeiro, the action will promote the integration of design with traditional techniques developed in the region, such as basketry, manual weaving, crocheting, embroidery and woodwork.

The president of Sindmóveis, Cátia Scarton, emphasizes that the promotion and enhancement of the national design are at the root of the association. “Our business goes far beyond representing the member furniture companies. We are a local organization aimed at the world and seeking conditions for the global integration of our companies. For us, design is a competitive tool able to differentiate our products, develop the Brazilian identity and strengthen the furniture industry,” she says.
