Innovation and competitiveness in a Movelsul Brasil 2016 project

04/03/2016

The 20th Movelsul Brasil will feature the Senai Innovation Grand Prix, where  multidisciplinary teams compete to find innovations for the woodworking industry. During the five-day fair, three teams with seven members each will work in see-through booths, competing to find solutions focusing on energy, water, waste and occupational safety.

The idea was to devise a technological innovation network to receive, select and create ideas, concepts and prototypes. The regional director of Senai-RS, Carlos Trein, explains that the project is flexible and can be applied to all economic segments, bringing together organizations and companies during a healthy competition for qualification. He points out that the action has the technical support from Senai and the ideas are prototyped and tested for feasibility.

The project, held for the second time in Rio Grande do Sul, follows a Swedish innovation model – the first project was held in 2014 during BITS, an IT fair in Porto Alegre. "The project demystifies innovation, proving that it is possible to develop ideas relevant to the industry with few resources," says Trein.

The President of Sindimóveis Henrique Tecchio, praises Movelsul Brasil concurrent projects aiming to boost business. According to him, in addition to generating business by attracting shopkeepers and importers, the fair always devotes efforts to encourage innovation in the furniture sector, increasing its competitiveness. "In partnership with Senai, this action shows to visitors the furniture industry’s concern regarding the qualification of its processes, especially at the present moment, when there is maximum demand for efficiency," he points out.

On the last day of Movelsul Brasil, a judging panel, made up of representatives of exhibiting companies, organizations and the civil society, will choose the best ideas that will be awarded. The project complies with the Integrated Product Development (DIP) methodology, resulting from a partnership between Senai, the Consorzio Politecnico Di Milano (Poli.Design, Italy) and the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA), supported by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, US).

Sponsored by Duratex, Renner Sayerlack and Banrisul,  Movelsul Brasil is the major furniture fair in Latin America held since 1977 by Sindmóveis Bento Gonçalves. The 20th Movelsul Brasil takes place from March 14-18 at Parque de Eventos in Bento Gonçalves.
